Budget Provision:
Responding to the climate emergency declaration and working towards net zero continues to be a key pillar of the Council’s strategic direction. As well as reducing emissions, the journey to net zero also brings opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy bills and even potentially generate revenue through renewable energy installations. Progressing with the transition to net zero has benefits directly for East Suffolk Council and residents of the District, but also feeds into wider goals across Suffolk, the UK and even global emission reductions. Due to its importance, we will continue to give regular updates on the Council’s work to address delivery of this core theme.
As the need to react to environmental challenges continues, the Net Zero Plan will play a significant role. It is designed as an overarching framework and focused on clear actions to take. For these actions to be achieved, open, active and productive collaboration is required, both internally and with key partner organisations.
The recommendation is put forward with the aim of ensuring we are delivering on the ambitions set out in the Council’s Our Direction 2028 strategic plan, and also meeting Suffolk-wide climate objectives. This will help ensure we are responding to both the challenges and opportunities for our communities.
