Report of the Senior Licensing Officer

The Sub-Committee received report ES/1370 of the Senior Licensing Officer, which related to an application requesting the classification of films.

The Senior Licensing Officer introduced the report; a request had been received to arrange for the classification of films, to enable them to be screened at the Snape Maltings in June 2023.  The request was attached as Appendix A to the report.

The Sub-Committee was advised that as the films had not been shown in the East Suffolk district and had not been classified by the Authority, it was necessary for the Sub-Committee to give the films a suitable classification.

The Sub-Committee, having viewed the films prior to the meeting, was asked to determine the appropriate admission criteria for the films, in accordance with the policies used by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) to classify films attached as Appendix B to the report.

There being no questions to the Senior Licensing Officer, the Chairman invited the Sub-Committee to comment on the films.  Members of the Sub-Committee commented on the quality, length and topics of the films.

Having applied the guidelines of the British Board of Film Classification, it was

 RESOLVED

That the films to be screed at the Snape Maltings in June 2023 be classified as follows:

Billy Budd - 12A

An Empty Stage: John Piper's vision of spirit, time and place - Universal (U)

Four Quartets on Film - Universal (U)
